Let’s start this article by clarifying a few terms.

Google Cloud Storage:

Google Cloud Storage is a service from Google that allows for storing and retrieving files seamlessly at a very low cost.

Experience Africa platform leverages the scale, simplicity and low pricing of the Google Cloud Storage in helping contributors easily manage their stock footage, safely and securely.

Bucket:

Not the bucket for fetching water.

Buckets are the basic containers that hold your data. Everything that you store in Cloud Storage must be contained in a bucket. You can use buckets to organize your data and control access to your data, but unlike directories and folders, you cannot nest buckets.

With the above out of the way, let’s move on!

In this step, add in your Google Cloud Storage bucket name in the “Enter bucket name” section to proceed. If you do not have a Google Cloud Storage bucket, here’s how to do so.

  • Visit the Google Cloud Storage Console page https://console.cloud.google.com/storage with your Google account
  • Create a new project.
  • To create a new bucket, you will be required to attach a payment method to your account if it’s your first time. Create, modify, or close your Cloud Billing account bookmark_border
  • With the billing part completed, go to the console page to continue.
  • Create a bucket. Choose a few details.
  • Give the needed permissions, so users who pay on Experience Africa can download the footage. Paid users won’t get direct access to your bucket with all the videos in them. Keep your bucket name confidential
  • Upload your original stock footage using the upload functionality.
  • Copy the bucket name into the section on this page, and submit.

We’re ready for the last step, which thus creates our stock footage items on the Experience Africa website for us
